About Greener Schools

Greener Schools group was set up to raise environmental awareness in children and young people in Peterborough. The group included teachers from Peterborough and individuals from environmental organisations. After consultation with the group it was revealed that the development of a website to help teachers and youth group workers locate environmental education resources would be highly beneficial. The way in which the site can be searched was developed in partnership with teachers. The website is funded by The Ernest Cook Trust, Mars UK and Awards For All.

How Greener Schools can help you

The site contains a list of all providers of environmental education in Peterborough. In addition to this there are some resources which are based in Cambridgeshire and a number of UK websites. On the search page you can choose the criteria by which you wish to search - key stage, curriculum area or keyword - and a tailored list of resources will be presented.

The site is free to use but we ask that you register to use it. In return, we aim to keep the site up to date, to promote a different featured resource each half term to give you ideas and to have calendar of up coming events which will let you know about new resources or events which providers in Peterborough will be running.

What to do next

Once you have registered on the site you can start searching for resources. The results will be listed alphabetically by format to allow you to compare similar resources, so for example all visits will be listed together. Please mention Greener Schools when you are contacting providers. Keep coming back to visit us as we will be adding new resources and items to the calendar and updating existing resources.

Volunteer Exchange

We have identified a need in local schools; they have exciting projects they wish to pursue in their grounds and need additional support to get them started. The Volunteer Exchange will help schools achieve their goals by helping them find the manpower to move their initiatives forward. If you're an organisation looking to volunteer or a school looking for volunteers, please click VOLUNTEERS in the grey box at the top of the page.

Photographs

You will have noticed the fantastic photographs on our website; these were taken by pupils in Peterborough who participated in the Schools Photography competition as part of the Green Festival 2007.

Supporters

Greener Schools gratefully acknowledges the support of The Ernest Cook Trust, Mars UK and Awards For All, through the National Lottery.
